Shelby County Obedience Club is a nonprofit organization whose members share a love of dogs & developing them into better companions. We also offer beginner obedience classes for the pet owner as well as conformation handling classes for handlers & their conformation dogs.

For SCOC members, classes are also offered in competition obedience, agility, rally and tracking. In addition, individual members participate in herding, hunting, earthdog, lure coursing, therapy, schutzhund & other assorted dog sports.

If you need more information about our beginner obedience or conformation classes, or club membership, call 901-458-6556 & leave a message. SCOC member volunteers answer our phone messages as soon as possible and will return all calls.

Shelby County Obedience Club also offers conformation classes and run throughs, open to the public, as well as obedience and agility show’n’gos. These are all meant to help prepare both handler and dog for conformation, obedience and agility competition. If you would like to be notified when these are scheduled, please fill out the form below and you will be added our email announcement list. Or just email us at INFO@ShelbyCountyObedienceClub.com

Thank you for your interest in our basic beginner obedience class.

Registration for the SCOC basic obedience class at our training building is offered every other month. The fee for the six week class is $125.00 and is payable, by check or cash, at registration. You will also need to bring proof of vaccination to registration but please, leave your dog at home. The classes are held at our training building at 3785 Given Ave. A copy of a map to our building can be downloaded using the link on the left side of this page.

For your class, please have a 6 foot leash (no chains or retractable leashes, please) and a well fitted collar. We will be glad to check your collar and make recommendations so it fits properly. It is also a good idea to bring plenty of small, quick-to-eat treats and/or a favorite toy to class to make learning lots of fun.

We have a grassy area so you can potty your dog before class. Your instructor will go over the training and building guidelines at registration and again, on the first night of class.

We look forward to seeing you and your canine companion at our next class!
